List of Bills President Buhari refused to assent to 19 out of the 35 bills that were forwarded to him from the ninth National Assembly. President Buhari signed 16 into law last week.
President Muhammadu Buhari declined to sign a bill that would empower the National Assembly and State House of Assembly to call the President and governors to account.
On Tuesday, Ahmad Lawan, President of the Senate, declared that the Senate was preparing to investigate the cause of President Buhari’s denial to sign 19 of the 35 constitutional amendment bills sent to him by the National Assembly.
Besides the bill that would empower the National Assembly and State House of Assembly to call the President and governors to account, President Buhari refused to sign 15 other constitutional amendment bills out of the 35 bills into law.
Disclosing the Senate’s constitution of the Senate committee to probe Buhari’s rejection of the 19 constitution amendment bills, in his remarks during the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, Senator Lawan said the Senate would engage with the Presidency to understand why the remaining 19 bills were not assented to.

An Act to Change the Second Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1999 for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly to be Able to Require the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Governors of States to Respond to Questions on Issues for which the National and State House of Assembly are Authorised to Make Laws.
“A Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to require the Government to Direct its Policy towards ensuring Rights to Food and Food Security in Nigeria.”
A Bill to Change the Regulations in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Allow for a State of the Nation and State of the State Address by the President and Governor.
