From Crime Scenes to Chemistry: TV’s Most Iconic Crime-Fighting Couples

Police procedural shows and crime dramas have a way of sneaking in romance between heinous crime scenes and life-or-death moments. While some of these characters have instant chemistry, many tilt toward the slow burn, keeping fans guessing for seasons on end, and then boom! They are TV’s best  Crime-Fighting couples.
Read on for more insight into the dynamics behind some TV’s best cop, superhero, and FBI love affairs, courtesy of the LAPD, NYPD, and some underground bunker where superheroes hide.

Why TV’s Crime-Fighting Couples Are the Ultimate Slow-Burn Romances

From ChenFord to Deckerstar, this list celebrates cops and FBI agents who have earned their place among TV’s most iconic couples. Oddly, other fan-favourite pairs—like Damon and Elena from The Vampire Diaries, Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly from The Office, or Ross and Rachel from Friends—sometimes get overlooked or underrated, despite their own legendary romances.

Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen – The Rookie (2018 – to date)

In the first season of The Rookie, Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) would twitch and sometimes act nice to Lucy  (Melissa O’Neil). Or maybe it was Lucy’s straight-up refusal to heed his tough-man Dutchie-bag act that shattered Bradford’s walls. Throughout the first season, the show was quick to show the soft side of bradford when he basically melted at the sight of his drug-addicted wife.

When it came to Lucy Chen, some of the wall came down when the two went through difficult moments: first when Caleb kidnapped Lucy, and second when Jackson West passed away.
Fans of The Rookie are absolutely stunned to discover that it took this long for Tim and Lucy to become an item and even more disappointed when Tim broke things off with Lucy in Season 6, Episode 6. The show pacified fans with occasional hookups and what looked like a sealed-deal reunion in the Season 7 finale. We were still soaking in the newly healed ChenFord ship and getting ready for the altar when the last episode of season eight left us gasping for breath.

Elizabeth Keen and Donald Wresler – The Blacklist (2013 – 2023)

Typically, there’s a love-hate relationship between fathers and sons-in-law. Still, on the Elizabeth Keen homestead, Tom Keen and Raymond Reddington had that covered, which is fair because Redd only hired him as a “friend of a friend,” and he married her! And after Redd exposed him as the crook he was… It didn’t really do much because, before you could do or say anything about it, ops!! he did it again.

But with Keen and Wresler, it was barely a relationship: one kiss here, one night there and deep affection for one another. In fact, it’s safe to say that, for Keen and Wresler, the longing wasn’t really there, which makes sense, because Reddington kept them on their feet, and with him in the mix, it wasn’t really fair to bring a civilian into that madness.

But regardless, Elizabeth Keen and Donald Wresler probably have the worst love story of any other TV cop lovers; they never really settled into their love, except for a few stolen moments here and there, before Elizabeth Keen was sadly killed off. But thanks to the chaos Raymond Reddington brought to the lives of the Raymond Reddington task force, Blacklist fans were too engrossed in his mischief and chaos to think much about romance and passionate kisses.

Kate Beckett and Richard Castle – Castle (2009 – 2016)

Homicide Detective Kate Beckett and best-selling mystery novelist Richard Castle had the best time solving crimes. Although Castle never hid his hots for Katherine, and for Catherine, it was basically touch and go; one flirty statement there and another with red-light green-light fans nearly let go of the idea of them being together until Beckett stopped by Castle’s penthouse, drenched, after a five-season slow burn. Castle and Kate found love in between solving some of the most heinous murders in New York City.

Despite Beckett and Castle being such great TV couples,  couples counselling couldn’t help actors Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic with their off-screen beef, which for many fans is absolutely weird, because in between all of the kisses and romantic moments Nathan and Stana shared on screen, you’d assumed they had had more than enough kisses to make up already. But you also have to give them props for the spectacular acting.

Barry Allen and Iris West Allen –  The Flash (2014 – 2023)

Having the same person as father and father-in-law is absolutely cute at first glance, but like your favourite selfie, if you look at it for too long, it begins to look a bit wonky.
Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) had a deep crush on his foster sister Iris long before he became The Flash and started saving lives in Star City; he had the biggest crush on the foster sister he had lived with. Although fans may find the switch from  sibling to lovers a bit tricky, there was something genuinely refreshing and somewhat reassuring about Barry and Iris, and the extremely corny idea that Iris would always find Barry, and the other way around, made their love story beautiful to watch

Chloe Decker and Lucifer Morningstar – Lucifer – (2016 – 2021)

Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis)(as in, the actual devil) found himself stuck in LA without his wings and found himself working crime scenes side by side with Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German); his interest was piqued when she was immune to his truth magic thingy and even further when he noticed he was vulnerable whenever he was around her. Countless crime scenes later and even more soulful glances, Lucifer and Chloe Decker became a match made in hell.

Propes to Chloe Decker for having a relationship with the devil himself, but then, considering how cute, rich, and absolutely adorable a devil he was, let’s call him every woman’s dream man. And even with the little devilish side and the king of hell baggage, we’re all God’s children!

Jane Doe and Kurt Weller – Blindspot (2015 – 2020)

Memory wipe and a full-body tattoo predicting the crime that was really committed was absolutely corcky, but trust Shepherd to do the most.

Jane Doe was planted in Kurt Weller’s life as a Trojan horse sent into the FBI to cause a little bit of chaos. Posing as Kurt Weller’s long-lost playmate, Taylor Shaw, Jane already had a soft spot for Weller. Through saving lives and foisting terrorist attacks, Jane does dangerous tricks when she reverts to the lethal Remi.

Toward the end of Season 3, it was a tad too late, as a beautiful love story was already born. Although fans still cannot tell whether Jane dies at the end of The Blacklist or not, Jane and Kurt are definitely one of TV’s toughest and most iconic couples.

Angela Lopez and Wesley Evers – The Rookie (2018- to date)

iconic TV couples: Angela Lopez and Wesley Evers

First ops on different sides of the law, a criminal defence lawyer and a patrol officer, Angela Lopez ( Alyssa Diaz) and Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore) were the TV version of off-screen Castle and Beckett. They shared what seemed like a heated passion when they first met that onlookers just knew Lopez and Evers were cooked!

Angela Lopez and Wesley Evers’ passion for the law sparked their love. For a moment, it seemed they weren’t going to make it, with the phone snooping and the grilled cheese in the bathroom that collectively gave Wesley and fans a big ick; there was hope, yet Lopez made a compromise and opted for a cleaning service.

For now, fans are still enjoying their occasional legal arguments, how Angela slightly scares Wesley (it’s not a thing; she scares all of Midwilshire station) and just what Angela gets to do with “her trust fund” when she finally decides to leave the police job.

Samar Navabi and Aram Mojtabai – The Blacklist (2013 – 2023)

Must have been an epic love affair; through memory loss and crime-fighting, the chemistry between the bold, assertive Samar Navabi (Mozhan Navabi) and the meek Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison)was undeniable. In fact, the love story is so sick that, when Raymond Reddington helped Navabi hide from the Mossad, Haram soccer punched the crime boss; if that wasn’t enough, he stole millions of dollars from the trigger-happy Reddington, who he would practically skwarm in front of.

Obviously, he regretted all of that before the end of the workday. He ended up thousands of dollars in debt to Reddington, but only good-quality love makes people do crazy things- and this Samar Navabi and Aram Mojtabai shared in The Blacklist.
