MultiChoice Nigeria has slashed the price of its DStv decoder by 50%, reducing the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 as part of a strategic effort to recover from declining subscriptions and reconnect with customers.
Announcing the new pricing on Tuesday, the company revealed that the initiative is part of its newly launched “We Got You” campaign — designed to make premium entertainment more affordable amid Nigeria’s tough economic climate.
“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” said John Ugbe, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria. “The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”
Ugbe emphasized that the platform is repositioning itself as a hub of daily value across a wide range of genres — including movies, drama, children’s content, lifestyle, and news — to encourage broader audience engagement beyond sports.
In addition to the decoder price slash, MultiChoice is offering a limited-time promotional upgrade. From June 16 to July 31, 2025, subscribers who renew their existing package in full will be upgraded free to the next higher tier.
According to the company, both the price reduction and the bonus upgrade are part of a broader response to Nigeria’s economic challenges.
The move comes after MultiChoice lost a staggering 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025 — a drop largely attributed to the country’s inflationary pressures and a series of unpopular price hikes.
Within the last year alone, DStv and GOtv packages saw three separate increases: in April 2023, November 2023, and most recently in April 2024, with the latest changes taking effect on May 1.
As MultiChoice seeks to regain trust and reinforce its value proposition, the new campaign and offers may provide a much-needed lifeline — not just for the company, but also for Nigerian households looking for affordable home entertainment.
