DSTV Subscription Price in Nigeria From 2011 Till 2026

DSTV decoder and DSTV subscription prices have been a regular topic of discussion for many Nigerians, as DSTV subscription prices currently range from ₦4,400 to a whopping ₦44,500 monthly. In fact, for DSTV Premium and other language-specific DSTV subscriptions, the monthly subscription can reach as high as ₦75,000.

As of 2024, DStv subscription and decoder prices have tripled, with DStv and GOtv decoders reaching as high as ₦100,000. This sharp increase forced many Nigerians to abandon DStv and switch to alternatives like StarTimes, causing MultiChoice to lose millions of subscribers.

Although DStv and GOtv decoder prices have dropped significantly, subscription prices remain high for many Nigerian customers. Given this situation, it’s worth comparing current DStv subscription prices with those from previous years.m,

DSTV Subscription Price

DSTV subscription and decoder prices have constantly been adjusted by MultiChoice for several reasons given for the increases since 2007, spanning inflation, cost of operation, and even foreign exchange rates.

DSTV Raises Subscription Prices by 10% in 2012; Access Package Unaffected

The next year, in August 2012, DSTV subscription prices increased by another 10% across all bouquets. Even though DSTV Access was still left at ₦1,500 monthly, DSTV Premium was increased from ₦10,000 to ₦11,000. This time, MultiChoice stated that the increase was attributed to rising inflation and higher operational costs.

DStv Subscription Prices Rise by 20% in 2015

The next major increase came in 2015, when there was a 20% increase across all DStv bouquets. This time, DStv Access was not exempt. DStv Premium went from ₦11,650 to ₦13,980, while DStv Access subscribers saw their monthly fee rise from ₦1,500 to ₦1,800.

Between 2009 and 2017, DStv Premium increased by 55%, rising from ₦9,000 in 2009 to ₦13,980 in 2017.

Additionally, even though DStv Access was mostly unaffected by earlier price increases, it still went up by 26% within its first eight years, from when it was launched in 2008 to 2015.

DStv and GOtv Subscription Rates to Increase 5% After Annual Review in 2017

At the same time, the GOtv decoder and GOtenna with a one-month Max subscription went from ₦9,500 to ₦6,900.

DStv and GOtv also introduced the Ghen Ghen Reloaded offer, which was specially designed for the Nigerian family and came with over 135 channels. The goal was to reduce the economic pressure experienced by Nigerians.
