92 Million Naira in One Night for Detty December!!!

Detty December in 2024 came with a blast, with a swamp of tourists, celebrities, and even locals from different parts of Nigeria making their way to Lagos State for the lively, entertaining, and cultural dynamics it offers. It’s the new year, and now social media users are sharing their experiences via social media, Instagram, and TikTok especially.

Today’s tale from Detty December isn’t about Lagos traffic, celebrity spotting, Uber drivers, or even Lagos clubs… It’s somewhat about the club, as this LinkedIn user shared an interesting story about a stranger’s Detty December activities.

The post goes on to highlight how poorly and recklessly spending reflects the state of the economy, emphasizing how such an investment could significantly improve the lives of Nigerians.

The post continued…

“Oh no, definitely not me or anyone I know Ooo was involved in this waste of resources, lavish lifestyle and unnecessary show off of stupendous spending on drinks.

Am I crazy?

The reality is that some person’s squandered this huge amount of money on liquor within hours of celebration, and I am almost sure they weren’t celebrating the Birth of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, oh certainly not. Only God knows what the celebration was all about at a Club, not on charity or some impactful humanitarian activities. I say it again, there is something fundamentally wrong with us a people and particularly this generation of youths. We cry everyday that there’s multidimensional Poverty in the country, that the vast majority of our People are experiencing extreme hardship, and that there is severe hunger in the Land, yet some individuals still indulge in this insane lifestyles. Folks I honestly don’t gerritt! What’s your take on this, please lets dissect, rub minds and share our thoughts on this, thank you.”

The conversation sparked by this post focuses on not just the extravagant celebrations of Detty December but also the glaring disparity between fleeting luxury and the daily struggles of many. Some LinkedIn users, like Dr. Olusoji Isaac Ijidale BSc and Destiny Agbanimu, reacted to the post, stating that.

“Those are the likes of Hushpuppi and Emeka Malaysia No earner of legitimate money would spend like this Have you ever read where Dangote,OTEDOLA,Rabiu or Adenuga would spend this way for such a frivolous gathering? Even when Otedola had to celebrate his birthday in a ship, it was to like “enjoy that which you had laboured for” and it was with his family. Sincerely we are dealing with a younger generation that has a different focus entirely, and each time I think so deeply about this I am left without any rational conclusion.”– Dr. Olusoji Isaac Ijidale BSc

“If these guys don’t spend, how do they pay the salaries of those who work at the club? How do those who work at the club pay their school fees or feed themselves? Are people who spend this amount of money really complaining about being in debt? Come on!”Destiny Agbanimu

So this is what is left to be said? You obviously missed the intent of the conversation, no one is advocating you shouldn’t have fun during festive seasons or at your own convenience at Clubs, Bars, Pubs, Parks etc. but squandering a whooping sum of N92m leaves much to be desired especially in this era of severe hardship in the land 😥. If you can engage in such lifestyle just so the staff of the Club can be paid their salaries and their children’s school fees can be paid etc. it’s definitely your choice but the question is don’t you have a family to also cater for their needs? Just wondering 🤔. My dear brother, there must be some level of moderation in all that we do, we are entering a New Year, extravagant lifestyles shouldn’t accompany us into 2025.”- Destiny Agbanimu.

“92m in a club from someone earning Billions monthly is not extravagant na. Let’s be sincere. I get your point any way.”- Olawale Olushola Adeduro Replied Destiny Agbanim.

Conclusion

Just as the Nigerian economy is in shambles, as is very obvious from the cost of living and transportation of goods and services, it is important to note that many people work from January to December while also contributing to society directly and indirectly. In other words, a person’s N92M may be the N10,000 you decide to splurge on catfish and cold drinks on random evenings. The truth is that all fingers are not equal, and even in the abysmal economic situations in Nigeria, there are legitimate businesses and personalities that it works for.
