Zamfara State is a state in northwestern Nigeria and its capital is Gusau. Zamfara was carved out of Sokoto State in 1996. According to the 2006 census and contains fourteen local government areas with the population of 9,278,873.

It is bordered to the north by the Republic of the Niger, to the south by Kaduna State, to the east by Katsina State. on the Western side of the state is Sokoto state, Kebbi state and Niger state.
