‘Relationship Expert’ Blessing CEO Finally Regains Freedom From Detention Over Alleged Cyber-Bullying, Libel
Blessing Okoro, more commonly referred to as Blessing CEO, has regained her freedom after being detained for accusations of libel and defamation.
‘Relationship Expert’ Blessing CEO was arrested by the police on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
A Federal High Court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, recently granted bail for Okoro for alleged cyber-bullying. However, according to SaharaReporters, she regained her freedom on Thursday, 24th April 2023.
According to her lawyer, Prince I. Nwafuru, they had released her after spending three weeks in detention.
The Nigeria Police Force appeared in court with Okoro before Justice Yelim Bogoro of the Federal High Court for six counts connected to cyber-bullying, libel, and showing unrated movies.
On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, counsel for Blessing CEO filed a bail application before Justice Tijjani Ringim of the Federal High Court in Lagos on her behalf. According to observers from SaharaReporters, the Nigerian police did not oppose the bail application.
The police requested that the court use its own discretion when considering the appropriate bail conditions. In light of this, Blessing CEO was granted by the judge bail in the absence of opposition.
They admitted her to N10 million bail, each with two sureties in like sum.
‘Relationship Expert’ Blessing CEO Plead not guilty
In a court filing, Police prosecutor Rotshang Faith Dimka alleged that ‘Relationship Expert’ Blessing CEO intentionally sent messages via her Instagram handle @officialblessingceo to bully, harass and threaten Folashade Samuels, the younger sister of the late Bimbo Ogbonna, on October 16, 2022.
The police also accused the blogger of damaging the reputation of both Folashade Samuels and Bimbo Ogbonna. Adding that she did this by exposing them to contempt, hatred, and ridicule through her Instagram handle.
“I am stepping into the case as the official relationship therapist of IVD… Will drop all the evidence that IVD did not kill his wife or even hurt her. The late Bimbo was the violent person and suicidal victim….” the police further cited.
The prosecutor claimed that Okoro Blessing exhibited a film and video work titled “Sweet Sour without a censorship certificate and a license issued by the National Film & Video Censors Board (NFVCB).
According to the prosecutor, the messages sent by Blessing Okoro included information about the late Bimbo’s family and accusations against her sister, Mamajazz. The police charged the defendant with offences that contravened Section 24 (2)(a)(1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, and Section 33 of the NFVCB Act, 2004.
Okoro Blessing pleaded not guilty. However, the court remanded her at the Nigerian Correctional Services Custodial Centre until May 30 for the hearing of her bail application.
Last year, Bimbo Ogbonna died in a fire incident at their residence in Lekki. She was the wife of Lagos’ celebrity auto dealer, Ikechukwu Ogbonna. Ikechukwu Ogbonna is currently facing involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with her death.
