What Really Happened to Funke Akindele The Omo Ghetto 2 Set—Bimbo Thomas Speaks Out

Actress Bimbo Thomas recently opened up to interviewer Chude Jideonwo on his coveted podcast, With Chude, about the disturbing events that took place during the filming of the movie. According to the actress, who played Nikky in both Omo Ghetto and Omo Ghetto: The Saga, the production period was not without serious challenges.
Herself, Funke Akindele, and a third party were attacked by some heavily armed men who specifically demanded Funke Akindele and threatened to shoot if they did not produce her:
“It was around 12 midnight, almost 1 if I’m not mistaken. So we heard bang noises. Oley, oley, oley, oley, oley… So, you know, she peeked through the window, we didn’t see anything.”
She continued to explain how Funke Akindele surrendered herself and was taken away by the goons:
“…They drag her down, pardon me. So, they took her to the car and we were there, shivering, we didn’t know what to do. I got downstairs. I just heard her singing, ‘Emi omo getto, I was born in the ghetto.’ I didn’t know what was happening. So why she singing? They asked her to dance, you know, and be singing and she was doing it.”
Other Times Nigerian Filmmakers Faced Harassment from Thugs on Set
Several filmmakers have expressed their frustrations about the insecurity they face while making movies, especially in Lagos State, Nigeria. Many producers, including Funke Akindele, Toyin Ibrahim, Omoni Oboli, and Ijaduade Ololade Azeez, have complained about harassment from thugs who disrupt them on set and sometimes even demand money from film crews. Such incidents reflect broader challenges that Nollywood productions encounter when shooting in public locations where local criminal elements interfere with filming.
At the moment, Funke Akindele has yet to react, confirm, or deny the specific incident involving armed men during a film shoot. However, fans are on the lookout, pointing out that she typically prefers to keep her personal life private and rarely discusses security matters publicly.
It may take longer to get an official response from the actress and producer, as she may choose to focus her attention on her recently released film Behind the Scenes, which stars Ini Dima-Okojie, Ibrahim Chatta, Destiny Etiko, among others, and is already breaking Nigerian cinema records and performing strongly at the box office.
