Serena Williams and Drake and Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl halftime show

Turns out, Drake had a thing for Serena Williams, just like he did for Rihanna. In fact, at one point, he even professed his love for Rihanna while presenting an award to her. After delivering a romantic speech, he attempted to kiss her, but she moved away and gave him a kiss on the cheek instead.

As for Serena Williams and Drake, he publicly admitted that dated in 2015. Now, after the 2025 Super Bowl, people are speculating that Kendrick Lamar is adding fuel to his beef with Drake by further embarrassing him—especially with Serena Williams making an appearance, and dancing to the diss song. The tennis champion did a crip walk dance as Kendrick Lamar performed his Drake diss track “Not Like Us.”

Why Kendrick Lamar brought out SZA, Serena Williams and Samuel L Jackson to the Bowl halftime show

SZA, a longtime collaborator of Kendrick Lamar, joined him on stage during the Super Bowl halftime show. The two were previously signed to the same label and are set to go on tour together. She’s also known for her past relationship with Drake.

Fans first learned about SZA and Drake’s brief romance from his 2020 song Mr. Right Now, where he revealed they had dated over a decade earlier. SZA later confirmed the relationship and clarified the timeline, noting she was 18 while Drake was around 23. The two would go on to collaborate on Drake’s 2023 track Slime You Out.

Drake and Serena Williams

Lamar also brought out another of Drak’s rumored exes, Serena Williams, who, like Lamar, hails from Compton, California. Drake and Williams were reportedly involved around 2015, though Drake only recently confirmed their relationship and even revealed that their whirlwind romance inspired his 2016 song Too Good.

However, Drake and Williams are no longer on good terms. In his 2022 track Middle of the Ocean, Drake took a shot at Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, calling the Reddit co-founder a “groupie.” Serena William’s husband responded on social media, embracing the title: The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do—including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter.”

Lamar appeared to stand by Williams in his diss track Not Like Us, referencing their shared Los Angeles roots: “From Alondra down to Central … better not speak on Serena.”

Is Drake going to sue Kendrick?

Lamar did start the performance of the Grammy-winning song “Not Like Us” saying, “I want to playing their favorite song, but you know they love to sue.”

The statement made a reference to Drake’s lawsuit against his music distributor, Universal Music Group, because, despite being his record label, they helped promote “Not Like Us,” even though the song not only dissed him but made some distasteful allegations against him.
